Lotus Notes V1 Download Now Working (updated)

Tags: Lotusphere

As Ed Brill wrote IBM made downloads of the original Notes versions available on occasion of Notes' 15th birthday. The first posting of the Notes V1 package was broken and the downloads have officially been removed by February 4th. Since Ed promised to put up a working version I just checked the trials&betas download page again today and I found that they finally posted a working Notes V1 download package. The file name has changed from the previous (not working) version and the size is now about 5MB.

Gravatar Image1 - Thanks for the tip! I don't know why, but it was bugging me that I got ver 2 and 3 but not ver 1. I must be a geek.

Gravatar Image2 - What's the tricK? I've run the install, but when I type notes.exe, I get an error, and notes.com gets me nothing.

Gravatar Image3 - @2 (Greg) - I have installed Notes V1 in a VMWare virtual machine on DOS and Win 3.x (only the workstation). So far I have not been able to find the right OS for the server to work. It probably needs Windows 2.1 (which I don't have). The client works fine though.

Gravatar Image4 - @2 during the first notes client launch, i got an errormessage "cannot write/create file". After creating an emtpy notes.ini manually containing a [notes] section in the first line, the good old notes client started to work.
my system is a virtual pc running os/2 warp 4.52, the notes client runs (walks) in a win/os2 window.

Gravatar Image5 - Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I noticed in the c:\museum\lotusnotesv1 directory, there is a 'winsetup' directory that appears to contain Windows.

Gravatar Image6 - Jens, do you still have the v.1.0 code, I am trying to find it for a project I am doing (rebuilding a vintage DOS machine).
Thanks,
keith

Gravatar Image7 - Ed Brill has posted some nice screenshots sent to him by Ray Ozzie:
